Three Recreation Areas in NJ Are Named Top Spots For Scenic Outdoor Workouts

Lift Vault surveyed 3,000 fitness buffs to find the most beautiful spots for exercise

A recent survey named three spots in New Jersey as some of the best spots for scenic, outdoor workouts.

Lift Vault conducted a survey among 3,000 fitness buffs to find the 150 best outdoor workout spots in the country, which they named Scenic Sweats. Three places in New Jersey rank among the top 150 for being a great place to exercise, but also for lots of green space. relaxing scenery and natural beauty.

The first NJ spot on the list, the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, came in at No. 65 on the list. There are more than 70,000 acres along 40 miles of the Delaware River across NJ and PA – including part of the Appalachian Trail. There are trails for hiking, running and biking, with varying levels of difficulty, on land; or take out the boat for some kayaking and canoeing along the river.

Liberty State Park in Jersey City is not far behind, ranked No. 67. There are gorgeous views of the NYC skyline, Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, and other iconic structures along the Hudson River. The park has a two-mile waterfront promenade with very flat areas for walking, jogging, biking or rollerblading. The park’s open fields offer plenty of space for yoga, tai chi, and other relaxing and rejuvenating activities.

No. 77 on the list is Island Beach State Park, one of the barrier islands of Seaside Park. There are 10 miles of beach between the Atlantic Ocean and Barnegat Bay that have natural beaches and dunes that are great for running, walking and beach sports. The calm water is ideal for paddleboarding and kayaking. Keep an eye out for wildlife in the more natural areas of the park.
