Raising kids is expensive, and we are always looking for a deal. Free admission for the whole family is a great perk. One of New Jersey’s favorite zoos is free year-round – and has been named to the Top 10 Best Free Attractions in the U.S. by readers of USA Today.
The Cape May County Park and Zoo is free, both for admission and parking. There are more than 500 animals of 250 species. It gained popularity because of its snow leopard cubs, born consecutive years from 2010 to 2012, and people love seeing the baby giraffes.
There are also lots of fun activities year-round, like Yoga in the Zoo, Pirate Day and Princess Day, an Earth Day celebration, 5Ks, summer concerts in the park, animal adoptions, the Tree to Tree Adventure Course, the Creepy Jeepy Contest, and Boo at the Zoo for Halloween. The zoo also offers camp registration and field trips. Certain attractions have additional fees.
Plus, the park has 200 acres of picnic areas, fishing ponds, walking and bike paths, playgrounds, a disc golf course, and tennis courts.
Donations help keep the activities and admission free, and the Cape May County Zoo recently announced it received its largest single donation ever: Charles Muller, a long-time fan who lived in North Jersey, donated his entire estate to the zoo after his death in 2022 – that’s $1.4 million in funding!
Cape May County Park and Zoo is located at 707 North Rte. 9, Cape May Court House. Zoo hours are 10 am to 4:30 pm, and the park is open from 7 am to dusk, every day (weather permitting) except for Christmas.
