It’s scary season, and one of the best places to celebrate Halloween is at Six Flags Great Adventure, where roller coasters are decorated for the season and zombies jump out of every corner.
Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson was named the top New Jersey theme park for Halloween, and No. 8 in the country, by JeffBet. With both Boo Fest for little ones and Fright Fest for those who love a serious scare every fall, we love to get our Halloween on at Great Adventure.
Each theme park was scored based on its amenities, attractions, availability of Halloween-themed activities, price, crowding, popularity during the fall, spooky themes and value for money. Data was gathered from the providers’ websites, Google reviews, queue-times.com and Google Trends.
Themes refer to the number and variety of Halloween attractions available and how much demand increases in October. Boo Fest is a series of daytime attractions for kids. There are family-friendly rides, trick-or-treat trails, a scavenger hunt, bingo, and a kid-friendly haunted house. After dark, Fright Fest takes over, with zombies and ghouls tormenting (but not touching) you in Scare Zones, haunted houses and mazes, creepy animatronics and monster shows (like the Dead Man’s Party and Blade Drummers). Some of the rides have the lights turned off for even more scares.
Amenities looked at the number of on-site restaurants, food stalls and gift stops. Great Adventure has its Oktoberfest celebration that started August 26 and goes through November 5, adding all kinds of German options like food, beer and desserts.
Attractions relate to the number available, wait times and ratings. Our favorite coasters are Kingda Ka and the Jersey Devil. Houdini’s Great Escape is open year-round, too.
Availability is based on the number of days the Halloween event is running and the park’s seasonal opening hours. Great Adventure runs Fright Fest and Boo Fest events from September 8 through October 31, on select dates. Value for money assessed the ticket price according to the number of attractions and the hours each guest can spend in the park to see where their money will go the furthest. Hours vary throughout the season, and a season pass sale is going on now.
