It’s tough to rein in the enthusiasm on a holiday morning, and that often means breakfast gets delayed until all the presents are opened. But since I like to nosh while the festivities are going on, I have this holiday platter ready to go before I hear those footsteps running down the stairs. The Jacquet brand of tree-shaped waffles are fabulous, but if you can’t find those, you can use a tree-shaped cookie cutter to create trees from frozen or toasted waffles. We used a mini waffle maker with a tree pattern to make the ones shown here. Don’t forget to give everything a generous dusting of “snow” (aka powdered sugar) before serving.

Peppermint Whipped Cream
(Makes about 1½ cups)
So simple, but so amazing! Homemade whipped cream is essential when you want to level up your holiday breakfast. And once you’ve made it, you’ll wonder why you ever bought the stuff in the can.
1 Cup heavy cream, very cold
1/4 Cup powdered sugar
1/8 Tsp. peppermint extract
1 Tbsp. crushed peppermint candy, optional
Pour the cream into a medium bowl, preferably metal.
Using a hand mixer or a stand mixer with a whisk attachment, beat on high 2 to 3 minutes, until stiff peaks start to form.
Add the powdered sugar and the extract and beat an additional minute.
Top with crushed peppermint candy just before serving.
The whipped cream can be made one day in advance, covered, and refrigerated.
