Picking a name for your baby is a huge decision. One they are stuck with for life. While it might seem simple to some, people still struggle with finding the right one, and many turn to their own musical influences for inspiration.  A 2021 study by Jewelry Box broke down the most popular baby names in the US and UK that reference famous musicians.

Currently, the top 5 artists who inspired a lot of baby names in the US were Drake, the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Prince, and John Lennon. From 2000 to 2019, 25,537 babies were born and given the name Drake. That’s a lot of fans of the Canadian rapper.

“With multiple number one hits, four Grammy Awards and a host of other accolades, Drake’s music has a wide and popular appeal to this day,” Jewelry Box explains. The most popular female baby name with a famous musician is Miley with 11,974 babies being named in 2000 to 2019.

Demi Lovato was first on the UK side with 6,333 babies named after her followed by John Lennon.  Both still hold high spots in America, ranking in the top 10 of popular baby names influenced by a musician. Looking through the various lists, boys seemed to be more likely to be named after a famous musician with a higher number of musical names.

A lot of the artists found to be a parents’ favorite are worthy to have a child named after them; like Ella Fitzgerald, David Bowie, and Etta James. Looking for more musical inspiration? Here’s a top 40 list of what’s rocking the baby name charts.
