We all love a good family trip, and a trip with your significant other is a rare pleasure. But there’s just something special about solo travel. When you get the opportunity to do it, you always end up stepping outside your comfort zone, meeting new people and having new adventures. But where are the best places to adventure on your own in NJ?

Good Housekeeping recently chose “42 of the Best Solo Travel Destinations in the United States for an Unforgettable Adventure” and amazingly, two great NJ towns made the list! In order to come up with the list, Good Housekeeping weighed variables such as walkability, safety, self-care opportunities, number of historic sites and museums and access to nature.

Princeton made the list of places to visit when you’re on your own. “This New Jersey gem has more to offer than just a beautiful college campus,” says Good Housekeeping. They list the Morven Museum & Garden as an incredible place to see art inside a historic mansion, surrounded by beautiful landscaping. Terhune Orchards is another recommended stop for solo travelers. The farm offers delicious wine and baked goods in addition to seasonal fruit picking. History buffs will want to stop by the Princeton Battle Monument, which honors the battle fought and won by George Washington in 1777.

Also on the list of destinations perfect for when you’re adventuring alone is Cape May. “Filled with Victorian-era houses that line the streets of the historic downtown, this resort town is nothing like what you’d find elsewhere along the Jersey Shore,” says Good Housekeeping. They recommend spending a day wandering the cute shops, sunbathing at the beach or climbing the 199 steps to the top of Cape May Lighthouse in Cape May Pointe State Park. A whale-watching tour is another great solo adventure you can have here.

So what are some of the other destinations that made the list? Sedona, Arizona, Washington DC and Palm Springs, California are just some of the other amazing places to have a great time sans partner and kids.
