Chances are, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle is a staple on your toddler’s bookshelf. If your child is obsessed with the classic tale, you should know about the stage play in New York City based on the beloved book and other children’s stories written by Carle.
“The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show” is a fun experience for the whole family. Last season’s show kicked off with “The Artist That Painted a Blue Horse,” “Mr. Seahorse” and “The Very Lonely Firefly,” which involved a lot of audience participation. Kids were clapping and dancing during the scenes, and they got excited when the animal puppets popped out of hidden parts of the stage – and as they marched down the aisles.

This season adds “From Head to Toe” and “The Very Quiet Cricket,” with even more inspiring messages. The purpose is to not only foster a love of reading in your littles, but to get them to love the stage, too.

During the holiday season, “Dream Snow” is added to the story rotation, adding to the Christmasy feel New York has.

And of course, the grand finale is “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” which will thrill everyone in your crew. The props look identical to the illustrations in the book, and will have your kids yelling out foods and numbers as the story progresses. At the end, the actors bring out some of the best characters onto the stage. You can sign up for a meet-and-greet after the show.

“The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show” runs for 50 minutes with no intermission. Performances run on select dates from November 15 to December 28 at Manhattan Movement & Arts Center, 248 West 60th St., New York. Tickets start at $39.
