The opening of this underwater adventure was postponed a year due to COVID, but now SEA LIFE Aquarium is open (as of June 15) and we got a sneak peek at all the fish, sharks and undersea fun.

This interactive space gives kids a chance to get up close and personal with sea life in a fun way, with a crawl through tunnel for the kids, walk-through tunnels for everyone, viewing bubbles in the fish tank so you can pop your head in for a front-row seat to the action and a touch tank area for some hands-on fun.

The latest SEA LIFE Aquarium (there are more than 40 others around the world) is 25,000 square feet and is home to more than 3,000 undersea creatures. Guests will take an elevator down from the entrance near Parking Lot A , and in keeping with the “City Under the Sea” theme, they’ll step into a space that feels like a subway.

The Touch Tank area has a football theme, and while you touch sea anemone and starfish, you’ll also spot nods to local football teams like the Giants and Jets.

Step into the Jellies 54 area, a disco-themed zone, with some cool jellyfish that float around, and kids can control the colors of lights in the area. As you continue to explore the Urban Jungle, you’ll see seahorses, and other favorites as kids can crawl under tanks and pop up into bubbles for a close-up view of the fish and feel like they are part of the tank in a rainforest environment.

Our favorite area was Sharks Fish Avenue, a whole zone of clever fish puns modeled after famous stores on Fifth Avenue. With more than 100 different species of fish on display, there is definitely a good variety to look at and each area has information about conservation and aims to educate their youngest guests with interactive experiences.

The showpiece of the space is the 186,000-gallon tank, which has a large underwater tunnel, and features famous NY landmarks with more punny fish names, like the Empire Skate. There are sharks and stingrays that will glide right over your head as you are walking through the space.

Not open yet, but soon to debut is a soft play ocean-themed jungle gym.

General admission is $28.99/adult, $23.99/child. You can buy a combo ticket with the neighboring LEGOLAND Discovery Center that is also newly opened at American Dream. Those combo experiences are $43.99/adult, $38.99/child. You can also get an annual membership for $69.99/person.
