The Loaded Spoon Opens at iPlay America This Week

There is a full menu, but their monster desserts can feed up to 14 people!

An exciting new addition to the Monmouth County dining scene is opening soon at iPlay America in Freehold. You can get a sneak peek at its newest restaurant, The Loaded Spoon, this weekend before it opens to the public on St. Patrick’s Day, Friday, March 17th.

Sit with your friends at the bar, enjoy dinner with the fam in the group dining area, or check out a captain’s table overlooking the pastry kitchen. Grab a bite to eat before you head to the arcade and boardwalk-style area.

There are tons of selections on the menu, like loaded potato croquettes or tuna crudo for starters; soups, greens and pastas; main dishes including angry shrimp and cauliflower steak fritte; lots of steak cuts that are butchered in house; and sides like hot honey brussels sprouts or yams with marshmallows.

The special #GetLoaded options serve three to five people. Share burrata balls, garlic toast overload with eggplant caponata, or a selection of crispy calamari, scallops and shrimp.

If you still have room, try one of the over-the-top desserts, like a giant loaded milkshake, or a shareable dessert (feeding anywhere from six to 14 people) like the Last Call: a combo of crème brulee, cream puffs, cheesecake, brownie bites, macarons, caramel popcorn, pretzels, fresh fruit, whipped cream and more sweet treats. If you’re eating for one, try a scoop of ice cream or a single dessert like a fudge brownie or dark chocolate whiskey cake.

Get a sitter for the kids on Saturday and Sunday nights after 9 pm, since a guest DJ will spin live music to show off the Spoon’s upscale nightlife experience. The lineup so far is Frankie Sauce on March 10, DJZA on March 11, Dan Emerson on March 17, DJ Licious on March 18, Joe Ferdico on March 24, DJ John Cascone on March 25 and Deen Anthony on March 31.

Invite the family back together for brunch on the weekends. Special brunch items include Irish Nachos, which are waffle fries covered in aged cheddar, a Guinness demi-glace and bacon – perfect for opening weekend after St. Paddy’s Day; biscuits and gravy; a Jersey Benny with slab pork roll, beef gravy and a potato pancake; and avocado fritte, which is avocado fried in panko and served with chipotle aioli.

You can order eggs, like Dante’s Inferno, which has chorizo, smoked chili, plum tomato and pickled jalapeno; or old-fashioned eggs with home fries and toast. There are soups and salads, pasta, fried PB&J, lobster rolls and a dry-aged burger. Treat yourself to a donut tower, cinnamon buns or croissant waffle (known as a croffle).

Craft cocktail options include the pistachio espresso martini or brown butter old fashioned; “smoke shows” like a root beer float or orange crush; and full beer and wine lists.

The Loaded Spoon opens at 5 pm on March 10 inside iPlay America, 108 Schanck Rd., Freehold. There are special hours on select dates through April 14 so check the schedule before making plans to dine. The special grand opening celebration is 5 pm Friday, March 17. After April 14, The Loaded Spoon will be closed on Mondays, open at 5 pm Tuesdays – Fridays, and open for brunch starting at 11 am on Saturdays and Sundays; brunch is served until 3 pm but the restaurant stays open all day.
