Even if you’re still in summer mode, it’s time to start planning some fall fun, and you don’t want to miss The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze, which will be in two locations this year, in the Hudson River Valley and on Long Island. And while it may seem early to think about Halloween, the Hudson Valley location often sells out on busy nights and weekends very early.
There are also special Legend of Sleepy Hollow-themed experiences that parents and kids will love. Blaze: Hudson Valley will return to Van Cortlandt Manor in Croton-on-Hudson for its 17th year while Blaze: Long Island returns to Old Bethpage Village Restoration in Old Bethpage for a second year in a row.
Both locations of The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze promise to be bigger and better than in past years and will feature thousands of hand-carved jack o’lanterns.
For even more fall fun, be sure to take a tour of Washington Irving’s home at Sunnyside and check out an original shadow puppet film, plus a special exhibit at Home of the ‘Legend.’ In the evenings, there will be a dramatic performance of Irving’s ‘Legend,’ performed outdoor under the stars with live music. There will even be an appearance from the Headless Horseman!
As for COVID safety, experiences are mostly outdoors and touch-free. Masks are not required for vaccinated visitors on the grounds but are required indoors, such as in buildings to visit the restrooms or shops. You can find more info on safety protocols and requirements here.
All events have limited capacity and may sell out, and in years past the one in Hudson Valley ALWAYS sells out fast. All admissions are by advance purchase only. To further reduce staff/visitor touchpoints, no tickets are sold on site even if not sold out.
