A bill that would make Spring Break the same across all school districts in New Jersey has been brought back to life after a 4-year stall.
Senate Bill 170 allows the Commissioner of Education to the recommend dates a school district would close each year. The commissioner would let the district know prior to June 30 of the prior school year, so parents have plenty of time to plan their vacations or babysitting plans.
Bill S170 was originally filed in May 2022 by Senator Patrick Diegnan, Jr. (District 18-Middlesex) and was reintroduced this past January.
There is no date scheduled yet for a vote, but the bill has to go through the Senate Education Committee, be approved by the full Senate and Assembly, and then be signed by the governor in order to become law.
If passed, the bill would go into effect during the first full school year following the date of enactment.
