South Jersey Couple Opens First Wok-Based Restaurant in Their New Jersey Hometown

Ingredients for the stir-fries and bowls are sourced locally

Husband and wife Brennan and Samantha Foxman grew up in Margate and are now returning home to open a popular restaurant that will make its Garden State debut.

Wokworks has locations out of state, but the first New Jersey location will open in Margate this June. Brennan is happy to bring the concept back home, which was inspired by a trip to Amsterdam years ago when he fell in love with Southeast Asian street food culture. He wrote a business plan when back in the U.S. and opened Wokworks in the Rittenhouse section of Philadelphia in 2013.

“After years of searching, we’ve finally found the perfect spot for Wokworks in Margate, a place close to our hearts as locals who grew up frequenting its beaches and cherishing memories with friends and family,” says Brennan. “With its vibrant dining scene, we see Wokworks as a natural addition, seamlessly blending into the community fabric.”

If you’re a fan of the chain, look for staple menu items like Chili Garlic Chicken, Dry Pepper Steak, Drunk Noodles, Pad See Yew, Tiger Fried Rice, Honey Garlic Shrimp, Dan Dan Lo Mein, Bam Bam Chicken, Crispy Vegetable Dumplings and build-your-own bowls. The stir-fries are made from scratch and add a hint of smokiness called “wok hei.” They use a farm-to-fork approach, sourcing 100 percent of their produce and vegetables from local farms in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, plus getting wild-caught Canadian lobster and wild-caught shrimp.

New dishes in Margate will be Dry Pepper Korean Fried Wings, Peach Yuzu Slushies and Single Origin local soft serve premium ice cream.

There will also be an added section of offerings from their flagship location in Fishtown, PA, through a partnership with REAP, which is a chef-created, plant-forward kitchen and mini-mart. These options can fit in your basket for the beach, like rainbow lettuce cups, whipped truffle edamame dip, seaweed Caesar salad, spicy green juices and watermelon candy.

Wokworks Margate will be located at 7801 Ventnor Ave. in the former home of Greens and Grains and Stewart’s. The new location in Margate has 2,000 square feet and outdoor seating for up to 50 people. Wokworks has eight locations of restaurants, food trucks and grocery store kiosks across Greater Philadelphia. Delivery from Margate will be available from Atlantic City to Ocean City and across the bridge throughout the mainland.
