This Anime-Themed Restaurant Has Multiple Locations in NJ

The food is just as impressive as the handpainted murals

A chain of restaurants in New Jersey is combining all things ramen with Anime. When you walk into Rayaki, you think you’re going inside for traditional Japanese street food like soup, rice platters and gyoza (dumplings), but what you may not be prepared for are the incredible paintings on every wall of popular scenes from Japanese animated art.

Pop culture images from “Sailor Moon,” “Dragon Ball Z” and “Naruto” were handpainted by artists from Junggleart Studio from Wilmington, DE. Plus, there’s a large-screen TV on the wall airing your favorite episodes.

After taking in the wall art, comic books and merch, grab a paper menu and put check marks next to what you want to order. Appetizers include spicy edamame, seaweed salad, fried sticky rice cakes and Rayaki fries; vegetable, curry or tonkotsu soup; robatayaki skewers of chicken scallion, bacon with shrimp, eggplant miso and Japanese egg custard.

For either a starter or an entree, order the pork, shrimp, chicken or fried soft shell crab bao; or pork cutlet or chicken cutlet curry.

Ramen dishes are made with thick or thin noodles and come in seafood, miso, black garlic, vegetable, steak, chicken and shrimp varieties.

If you’re not craving soup, opt for a rice platter that includes beef, chicken, bacon-wrapped shrimp, crawfish, BBQ sausage, shrimp teriyaki or gyudon (Japanese beef).

We love a great boba, and the bubble tea comes in several flavors; or you can have iced tea or punch with jelly or yogurt balls added in.

Rayaki has locations in Cherry Hill, Glassboro, Edison and Philadelphia, and is opening a new restaurant in Sicklerville on April 28.
