There are dozens of wineries across New Jersey and we want to visit them all! Although most are located in the western and southern portions of the state, there are vineyards located as east as Monmouth County and as north as Sussex County.
Did you know there’s a winery within less than an hour’s drive for all NJ residents? The four American Viticultural Areas (AVA) are the Warren Hills AVA, the Cape May Peninsula AVA, the Central Delaware Valley AVA and the Outer Coastal Plain AVA. More than 60 vineyards across 1,500 acres grow more than 80 grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sangiovese, Albarino and Chardonnay. New Jersey’s wineries also produce a wide array of fruit wines, and New Jersey is one of the top producers of wine in the country.
To celebrate the grapes that grow in our state, the Garden State Wine Growers Association has a series of Wine Trail Weekends throughout the year.
Kicking off the year are New Jersey Wine & Chocolate Trail Weekends in February to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Participating wineries offer wine tastings, artisanal chocolates, live music, and more.
The Mother’s Day Trail in May lets you honor the special ladies in your life by sharing local wine and sitting down to chat.
The Holiday Wine Trail in November includes shopping at holiday bazaars and craft fairs, sitting by fire pits, ordering from food trucks, listening to music, taking your picture with Santa and entering raffles for great prizes.
You can visit NewJerseyWines.com or download the Passport to New Jersey Wine Country mobile app to plan your route. There’s also a weekly newsletter, In the Vines, where you can learn about other events throughout the year, such as wine festivals reps from the wineries will attend.

Did you know? Grand Cascades Lodge at Crystal Springs Resort in Hamburg, Sussex County, includes access to the largest private wine collection in the U.S. – 45,000 bottles worth $10 million – including the oldest bottle (1888 Chateau Latour) and the largest bottle (which holds the equivalent of 20 bottles). The basement area was originally planned for golf cart storage but was beautifully redone into tunnel after tunnel of wine displays. Look in each case for the bottles that are signed by winery owners when they come to visit. Then treat yourself to a fancy dinner upstairs at Restaurant Latour so you can boast to your friends that you ate at a multi-year Wine Spectator Grand Award-winning restaurant.
