Scouting America’s Alpine Day Camp focuses on getting children outside into nature. Open to non-scout families, campers can enjoy a beautiful property featuring a swimming pool, playgrounds, miles of trails, and acres of land to explore.
“The opportunity for socializing and the growth that comes with outdoor activity and imaginative play is so important for youth development,” says Alpine Day Camp Director Kimberly Merry. “Our camp has become an opportunity for children who may not have thought of themselves as nature lovers or outdoor enthusiasts to explore, play in the dirt and experience the great outdoors without the pressure of being far away from home.”
The camp features a diverse schedule of activities, including swimming, archery, BB guns, a range and a pirate ship. Each week revolves around themed days, from “Meet-yah Mondays” featuring team-building exercises to “Finale Friday” where parents are invited to join in on the fun with family swim, barbecues and talent shows. The camp also hosts visitors throughout the summer from local nature centers and entertainers from the area, and leads hikes to nearby historical landmarks.
“Introducing everyone to each other each week, regardless of how many weeks into the summer we are, offers each camper the opportunity to talk with someone they might not have been interacting with and help them break out of their shell if they haven’t already,” Merry says.
The camp’s staff is comprised of scout leaders, teachers and after-school program staff who all have extensive experience in either camp or education. The camp also offers transportation across all five boroughs and locally in New Jersey with flexible stops.
