Who doesn’t love a moms night out? Wealth of Geeks surveyed 3,000 people around the country about where they love to go out, and two New Jersey towns made their list of America’s Most Underrated Nightlife Spots for 2024.Â
Red Bank came in at No. 74 on the national list. To kick off the weekend, start at the BroadWalk Pop-Up Market on Thursday evenings. Follow up with an elevated dinner at Saffron before getting tickets to a show at Count Basie Center for The Arts or Two River Theater.
For drinks, you have your choice of Irish pub The Dublin House, which has live music on Thursdays and summer Sundays; Jamian’s Food and Drink, which has live music Wednesdays to Sundays; or Red Rock Tap + Grill, with 16 beers on tap, 19 HDTVs airing sports games, and dance music after hours. Le Malt Royale is a members-only social club.
Montclair came in at 81 on the national list. Alto Rooftop at the MC Hotel is the town’s only rooftop bar, and it has gorgeous views of NYC. Tierney’s Tavern, one of the oldest buildings in Montclair, is known for its Tierney burger, seven TVs airing sports and its love of Guinness (per a quote on the wall). Just Jakes is a neighborhood bar that caters to families during the day, but adults at night; catch a band playing on Fridays and Saturdays.
Pineapple Express used to be the Lackawanna Train Terminal built in 1913. Look around at the architecture designed by William Hull Botsford, who died on the Titanic. Montclair Brewery is the only brewery in town and has karaoke, trivia nights, live music, and bingo. Antika Grill is a BYOB restaurant open until 2 am on the weekends.
The Meatlocker hosts six bands every night, seven days a week, year-round. And the Wellmont Theater has a lineup of music, comedy and theater.
The country’s top 10 hidden gems for nightlife, according to Wealth of Geeks, are:
1. Sawtelle Japantown, Los Angeles, California
2. Cooper-Young, Memphis, Tennessee
