Although US government agencies like the FCC have reassured Americans that the  cell phone use is safe, there is growing concern that this not the case, especially where young kids are concerned.

Earlier this year,190 scientists representing 39 countries, who have together written over 2,000 papers on the effects of cell phones and radiation, appealed to the global health organization to tighten up their guidelines on the topic, specifically when it comes to children.

New studies show that radiation is actually more harmful to children than adults because kids’ skulls are thinner, making them more susceptible to  to absorption of the rays at a higher rate.

The American Academy of Pediatrics is also urging the FCC to update its regulations in the US, which have not been changed since 1996, so parents can make more informed decisions.

In an article on Today.com, Dr. Gisela Mercada-Deane, radiology chair at the American Academy of Pediatrics explains the rate of radiation exposure:

"The amount of radio frequency that children will be exposed by the time they are our age [an adult] is exponential to the amount of radiation, radio frequencies that we ourselves are being exposed to in a lifetime."

You are already concerned about screen time, this may be more evidence that limiting kids’ time with cell phones is smart thinking.
