
New Jersey’s schools have always been a huge draw for families and a recent study confirmed the Garden State has one of the best educational systems in the country.
WalletHub released its report of 2023’s States with the Best & Worst School Systems and ranked NJ #3 in the country. The analysis compared all 50 states and the District of Columbia across 32 measures of quality and safety. The data set ranges from student-teacher ratio and dropout rate to median standardized test scores.
With No. 1 being the best and 25 being average, New Jersey ranked in the following categories:
1st in the existence of a digital learning plan
2nd in reading test scores
4th in dropout rate
5th in student-to-teacher ratio
6th in math test scores
6th in median ACT score
16th in percentage of threatened or injured high school students
21st in incidences of bullying
30th in median SAT score
Massachusetts ranked No. 1 with an overall score of 73.02, coming in first in education quality and second in safety. In comparison, New Jersey landed on the list at No. 3, with an overall score of 65.40, placing second in the category of quality and 19th for safety.
Here are the Top 10 school systems in the country, per WalletHub:
1. Massachusetts
2. Connecticut
3. New Jersey
4. Wisconsin
5. Virginia
6. New Hampshire
7. Nebraska
8. Maryland
9. Florida
10. North Dakota
In 2022, the top three were also Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Jersey, respectively.
