Calandra’s Italian Village has transformed its bar area at Il Vecchio Cafe & Taverna Lounge into a cute Valentine’s Day pop-up with sweet V-Day decor and a special holiday menu.
Love Bites Bar has glowing lights, pink and red decorations, inflatables and lots of hearts. If you went to Cucina Calandra’s Grinch’s Grotto pop-up in Fairfield in December, you know all about the attention to detail here.
The drinks are totally on theme. Loves Me, Loves Me Not Mule has raspberry vodka, raspberry syrup, lime juice, ginger beer and fresh raspberries. Be Mine Martini is made with Figenza vodka, Chambourd and pineapple juice. Happily Ever After has Aperol, Pom Juice, Prosecco and an ice cube made from seasonal fruit.
Order classics like a cosmopolitan, Manhattan, bellinis, martinis, margaritas, sangria, cold brew coffee cocktails; or try a Bailey’s or Limoncello flight, which each have three drinks included.
Happy Hour is Monday all night, and then Tuesday to Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. You can order half-price bar food, and get cheaper beer, wine, cocktails, and certain premium drinks. The Love Bites Cocktails aren’t eligible for the Happy Hour discount, though.
If you’re bringing the kids, order a mocktail like the Elderflower Paloma (grapefruit, lime juice and elderflower) or a Tropical Mango Cooler (mango nitro tea, mango puree, pineapple juice, fresh lime juice, coconut cream, pineapple wedge and cherry garnish).
Brunch is served every Sunday from 12 to 3 pm, which includes half-priced mimosas, bellinis and screwdrivers, loaded Bloody Marys, and the sounds of smooth jazz.
Love Bites Bar is located at Il Vecchio Cafe & Taverna Lounge, inside Calandra’s Italian Village, 234 Bloomfield Ave., Caldwell. Lounge hours are 11:30 am to midnight from Sunday to Thursday, 11:30 am to 1 am Friday and Saturday. The pop-up will be open through February 15. Reservations are requested.
If you need sweets to go before heading home, pop into Calandra’s Bakery, which has heart-shaped cakes, cake pops, strawberries and cookies ready for your celebration.
Calandra’s Mediterranean Grill in Fairfield is serving up Valentine’s dinner from February 13 to 15 (violinist Jose Manuel will set the scene on Saturday night). Or celebrate early at the Champagne & Prosecco Night on February 10, or Galentine’s Night on February 11.
