Offering comprehensive year-round educational opportunities for pre-college and adult students, Rutgers Community Arts at Mason Gross School of the Arts seeks to provide life-changing, educational opportunities in the arts to participants of all ages, and to build community through the arts.
We strongly believe that the arts, in all of the different forms, is a way of making meaning out of lived experience through materials.
ART & DESIGN
Our Art & Design classes are designed to encourage individual artistic development, which can inspire interests in other subjects and enhance one’s overall quality of life. While classes are designed to show students different ways of understanding form, space, color, and composition, assignments are open-ended to allow individual exploration of visual language and meaning. Making through observation, memory, imagination, and experimentation are offered. Diversity of thinking and expression are encouraged.
DANCE
The Rutgers Community Arts Ballet School promotes discipline and creativity while encouraging each child to reach their highest potential as young dancers. Classes focus on building a solid foundation in ballet technique with an emphasis on proper placement and safe progressions of movement while remaining sensitive to the developmental needs of young dancers at every level.
FILM & ANIMATION
In our Introduction to Film and Animation course, students will examine the elements of storytelling by learning the fundamentals of how to create memorable characters, settings, and narratives. After this course, students will be ready to pursue either our Film track our our Animation track. Film and Animation Independent Studies are offered, where students with previous experience will have a chance to develop their own independent projects with guidance from our expert faculty.
