Nicknamed the “Jewel of the Jersey Shore,” this oceanside town is known for its pristine, quiet beach just a short drive from the hustle and bustle of boardwalks in Asbury Park, Point Pleasant and Seaside Heights.
Though the Atlantic waters surrounding Spring Lake were the inspiration for the blockbuster film Jaws back in the ‘70s (that’s where it really happened back in 1916!), beachgoers today know and love Spring Lake for its quaint feel, Third Avenue shopping, boardwalk and snack pavilion just steps away from the sand.
Visitors get views of the sea from roads flecked with gorgeous summer homes. If you can’t rent one in time, hit up a local bed and breakfast or splurge on a few nights at the White Lilac Inn, a charming Victorian B&B that dates back to 1880.
And Spring Lake’s downtown is not to be missed. Visit a local boutique along the main drag or stop by the Spring Lake Pizzeria after riding some waves. Pick up a few subs and homemade macaroni salad at Joseph’s Delicatessen, a popular spot worth a visit during your day at the beach. Don’t leave before stopping at Church Street for a few scoops of your fave ice cream from Hoffman’s.
Looking for some nighttime fun? Catch an outdoor movie on the beach at one of the borough’s under the stars screenings.
