Here’s Why We’re So Excited the VMAs Are Coming to NJ

The Garden State is home to a long list of music legends, so the VMAs are obviously in good hands.

For the first time ever, MTV will be handing out its iconic Moon Man awards in NJ. That’s right, on Monday, August 26 at 9 pm, all eyes will be on the Prudential Center in Newark for the 2019 VMAs.

This is only the fourth time the VMAs will be hosted outside of New York or Los Angeles. The awards were previously held in Miami and Las Vegas, too.

NJ is no stranger to music icons. As we all know and love, the list includes Frank Sinatra, Bruce Springsteen, Whitney Houston and Bon Jovi. “Now the moonperson plants its flag to celebrate all that New Jersey has given to music fans around the globe,” said VMA executive producer Bruce Gillmer.

Here are just a few reasons we’re pumped about the VMAs in NJ:

  • What’s an award show without a red carpet? Your kids’ favorite celebs (and let’s be honest, you love Ariana Grande, too) will be strutting their stuff on Garden State soil. Amazing.
  • Many of the hottest artists are from New Jersey. We’re looking at you, Halsey and the Jonas Brothers.
  • The next time you go to the Prudential Center, you might be walking the same path that your favorite artist did. Oh hello, Taylor Swift.
  • Speaking of Taylor Swift, the Prudential Center also happens to be home to the GRAMMY Museum Experience, which has featured exhibits honoring Taylor, Whitney and others.

Who are you hoping to see on the red carpet in Newark this summer? Tell us in the comments!
