The Wardlaw+Hartridge School in Edison, located on the border of Scotch Plains and five miles from downtown Westfield, is a Pre-Kindergarten through Grade12 co-educational, independent school. Our academic atmosphere allows students to engage their sense of discovery and excel in multiple disciplines. Our students understand and acknowledge diverse points of view, develop self-confidence, learn civic responsibility and leadership skills, and realize that individuals matter and can make a difference.
Wardlaw+Hartridge encourages its students to develop their athletic and artistic skills and develop a social conscience by participating in a wide range of community service activities. Wardlaw+Hartridge is a warm and welcoming community, rich with diversity in culture, thought and experience. Our students embody the school’s six Core Values: Integrity, Support, Opportunity, Community, Diversity and Sustainability.
Our Early Childhood Program honors and values childhood nurturing joyful experiences for children ages 3 through Kindergarten. Children thrive in vibrant classrooms designed just for their age. Hands-on, experiential learning is at the heart of our early childhood classrooms where early literacy, science and mathematical, as well as coding and robotics experiences are skillfully woven into engaging thematic investigations.
In our Lower School classrooms, we provide a high level of intellectual challenge within a program designed to guide and inspire children as they discover the full extent of their abilities. Using a developmentally appropriate approach, our teachers give children in the Lower School time to grow, explore, and discover. Through hands-on, interdisciplinary work our Lower School students participate actively in projects that teach them to conduct research, calculate, experiment, and solve problems.
Middle Schoolers navigate a fascinating period of development as they move through adolescence, developing from concrete to abstract thinkers and growing daily in independence. We work hard to create a positive environment for our Middle School students, nurturing and supporting them as they assume more responsibility, learn to take risks, tackle academic challenges, engage with the world around them, and take initiative. Immersed in rigorous and interdisciplinary learning, our Middle Schoolers seize the rich opportunities every day presents during this exciting time of growing intellects and identities.
Our Upper School offers small school intimacy combined with a broad landscape of opportunity and a challenging curriculum. Through an extraordinary range of activities and choices, we encourage students to participate actively and engage fully in an exciting four-year journey of self-discovery and expression. We prepare students for college and success in the contemporary world, and develop in them the skills, capabilities, and values they will need to lead fulfilling lives of purpose and meaning.
We take pride in cultivating graduates who are open to different ideas, experiences and cultures and are well prepared for the rigors of college, life and citizenship in the 21st century. Our students are prepared to lead and succeed in a world of global interconnections.
