A Central Jersey teacher needs your votes in his quest to become one of the top educators in the country.
Frank Vito originally spent three years helping people find jobs through an employment agency, and then a year in accounting for a seasonal opera company, but switched over to a teaching career because he loves history. He has been at Cranford High School for more than 18 years, teaching US History, AP Government and Holocaust/Genocide Studies through the Social Studies department. He spends time outside of school volunteering with the Holocaust Day of Remembrance, the Butterfly Project and blood drives.
Vito is a quarter-finalist in America’s Favorite Teacher. If he wins, he’ll be rewarded with $25,000, a feature in Reader’s Digest, a trip to Hawaii, and a school assembly with Bill Nye.
He said he plans to donate a portion of the winnings to a non-profit he works with, American Tributaries, an organization that funds trips for high schoolers to promote national unity; and use some of the money to write a book about the history of Down syndrome, in honor of his 23-year-old son Dominick.
Voting for the quarter-finals ends at 7 pm on Thursday, April 17 at 10 pm. You can enter one vote for free, or make a donation to increase the number of votes. Vito was in sixth place as of press time.
