Forget your traditional pancakes with eggs. A new brunch spot in South Jersey serves breakfast and lunch with a soul food twist, and it’s the comfort food you didn’t know you needed.

STAFF PHOTO / Pound Town

Brunchaholics started in Philadelphia but now has a location over the bridge in Cherry Hill. Sure, you can order the Brunchaholic, which is two eggs, breakfast potatoes and breakfast meat with French toast or pancakes. But you’re better off leveling up with the Pound Town, which is waffles made out of pound cake and topped with marinated strawberries and whipped cream; French toast cobbler, with bourbon apples and a warm cookie crumble on top of brioche bread; or cinnamon roll French toast.

If you want something savory, try the chicken and waffles, sausage biscuits and gravy or pork belly tostada.

The winner of the breakfast menu is S.G.G.: Seafood Gumbo and Grits. There are two huge pieces of fried, seasoned fish atop spicy gumbo gravy and the cheesiest grits you’ve ever had, with extra shrimp and lump crab on the side. It’s sweet, it’s spicy, it’s crunchy and creamy. Ordering an extra side of grits is a must.

Breakfast is served all day. But if you come later and want lunch, go for the jerk salmon cheesesteak, oxtail grilled cheese or smoked turkey leg. If you’re with your crew, try the Lunchaholic: four shrimp, four wings, four hush puppies, fish and fries, served with truffle hot sauce and tartar sauce.

STAFF PHOTO / Circus Circus

There are no kid’s meals but there is a kids’ menu for drinks! There’s a handful of mocktails made specifically for your child’s (or your) sweet tooth. The Circus Circus is pineapple juice, mango puree, banana puree, orange juice and strawberry juice with cotton candy on top. The Green Avenger is made with lemonade, green apple mix, Sprite and cherries on top. There’s also a version of the classic Shirley Temple.

STAFF PHOTO / Brunchaholic and Island Paradise mocktails

There are mocktails for you, too. The Brunchaholic is made with non-alcoholic spiced rum, non-alcoholic coconut rum, pineapple juice, guava puree, lime juice, strawberry-banana puree, orange juice and mango puree. The Island Paradise has coconut mix, blue Curacao non-alcoholic rum and pineapple juice. You can get a mule-tini or a classic mojito.

STAFF PHOTO / Mimosa Tower

You can also order a Mimosa Tower filled with Champagne, pineapple juice and orange juice, and can add optional passion fruit, mango, peach, strawberry or guava, too. It’s 5 feet of boozy fun meant to share.

Brunchaholics is located at 1200 Haddonfield Rd. in Cherry Hill in the same complex as Mattress Warehouse, Pho 9 and Escape Room Mystery. There’s another location at 2499 Aramingo Ave. in Philadelphia. You can walk in easily during the week, but reservations are recommended on weekends. Saturdays feature a DJ’d brunch, and on Sundays catch some R&B tunes while watching football.
