If you were a fan of the Smurfs back in the day, a throwback blue experience is coming to Central Jersey this spring with the mission to help save the Smurfs from the evil wizard Gargamel.
CluedUpp Games will bring its Smurfs Great Escape to New Brunswick and Trenton, where the streets will transform into a giant outdoor scavenger hunt. There’s also an escape room-style experience where you’ll race against the clock as you solve puzzles, complete challenges and join hundreds of other teams on your rescue mission.
After you download the app, you’ll get clues via your phone. Take photos with your favorite Smurfs along the way using augmented reality filters.
The game lasts about two to three hours, and you can start any time of the day beginning at 9 am. There are prize drawings, too.
The unofficial rule is to dress to impress. Wear your best Smurfs gear and paint the town blue. That puts you in the running for contests like the fastest team, best fancy dress Smurf-inspired, best team picture, best team name, best mini player under 16, and best Pawesome Pooch for your dog photo.
You only need to book one ticket per team, which is for a group of two to six adults. Kids under 16 can join the adults for free, but you should keep the limit at four kids per team to maximize the fun. The upcoming dates are April 22 in New Brunswick and April 29 in Trenton. Your exact starting point will be revealed two weeks prior to your event; it will definitely be in a convenient, central location. Tickets are $80 per team but you can get a 50 percent discount using the code “SMURFS50”.
CluedUpp offers Alice in Wonderland, too, plus Beauty and the Beast is on the way – more info will be available soon, but you can sign up for the Beauty and the Beast VIP list so you can get access to tickets 24 hours before anyone else, as well as 60 percent off tickets.
