Maggie Doyne spent her childhood in Morris County, but during a gap year in high school decided to travel the world.
Volunteering in India with Tope Malla, they visited Surkhet, Nepal, where they were impacted so much that they dedicated their lives to making sure every child is safe, educated and loved. They created a children’s home for those without families, a school for children who cannot afford education and a women’s empowerment center.
Doyne, who co-founded BlinkNow with Malla, is featured in a documentary titled “Between The Mountain and The Sky” about the organization’s history of working with kids in western Nepal. Director Jeremy Power Regimbal – who is now Doyne’s husband and splits his time between Nepal and the U.S. – filmed their work with the Kopila Valley School and the Kopila Valley Children’s Home for the past 8 years. In addition to the home and school, Kopila Valley runs a health and wellness program, future career readiness program and sustainability programs.
The documentary will debut at the Mountainfilm Festival May 23-27 in Telluride, Colorado. It tells the story of Doyne, who was the CNN Hero of the Year in 2015, has been featured in Forbes and the New York Times, and with a team of caregivers and teachers, has helped raise more than 80 children and educate more than 600 students.
BlinkNow is headquartered in Mendham and has a lot of support from the Mendham, Chatham and Morristown areas.
