Nine of NJ’s hospitals made the 2023 America’s 250 Best Hospitals list from Healthgrades.com. Healthgrades judges hospitals’ performances through ratings and awards. To evaluate hospitals, they used Medicare inpatient data from the Medicare Provider Analysis and Review file for 2019-2021. Patient outcomes for 31 conditions or procedures were analyzed for nearly every hospital in the country to come up with the list.
Earning a spot in the top 50 was Morristown Medical Center, which 82 percent of patients said they would recommend (that’s 12 percent higher than the national average) and Overlook Medical Center in Summit which had a 74 percent patient recommendation rating (4 percent higher than the national average).
Taking a spot in the top 100 of the list was The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. And ranking within the top 250 hospitals in the country were Hackensack University Medical Center, Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, Princeton Medical Center in Plainsboro and Chilton Medical Center in Pompton Plains.
America’s 250 Best Hospitals Award recognizes the top 5 percent of hospitals in the country for clinical excellence, according to the website. The hospitals on this list exhibit “comprehensive high-quality care across clinical areas.”
