Plan a great date night in November with one of these fun, grown-up activities.
Go to Paris Without Leaving NJ
So maybe you can’t afford a lavish Parisian vacation away from the kids right now—instead, hit one of the many great places in New Jersey that have that whole French thing down pat. Chez Catherine in Westfield is the real deal, with traditional dishes like Escargots de Bourguignonne (snails in a butter, parsley and garlic sauce) and Sole Meuniere (sole in a butter lemon sauce) that’s plated tableside. Or try Madeleine’s Petit Paris in Northvale, with amazing dishes like Coquille St. Jacques (scallops and leeks in a cream vermouth sauce), Steak au Poivre (steak encrusted with peppercorns) and Duck à l’Orange (duck in an orange sauce).
Leaf Peeping and Cheese
There’s going to see the beautiful fall foliage around the state on one of the many driving tours, hiking paths, biking trips or horseback trails—and then there’s doing it this way. Open through mid-November, the Valley Shepherd Creamery combines tours of the cheese caves and the sheep-milking barn with spectacular views of leaves in their brilliant autumn colors. Best of all, it’s less than $10 a person. Valley Shepherd Creamery, 50 Fairmount Rd., Long Valley; 908-876-3200; November tours run Saturdays and Sundays at 3:30 pm; $8.75/adult. Call ahead for reservations.
Have a Romantic Dinner By a Roaring Fire
November is the perfect time to book a dinner for two in front of a crackling fire. A few just-right options for you to consider: The Huntley Taverne in Summit, with two stone fireplaces; The Bernards Inn in Bernardsville, an over-the-top-luxurious American restaurant with a beautiful fireplace; and Lithos in Livingston, a classic Greek eatery with a soaring fireplace at one end of the modern space.
