When you find a great place, you naturally want to tell all your friends. But maybe you shouldn’t! Three NJ beaches were just named among the 100 Best Secret Beaches in the U.S. by Family Destinations Guide and we won’t blame you if you keep these gems for yourself!

Of course most of the beaches that made the top 10 are in Hawaii (it is a magical paradise, after all). But the Garden State scored big with three hits on this list of serene spots. Sedge Island took the number 5 spot. Located in Barnegat Bay off Island Beach State Park, a 15-minute boat ride takes you to the secluded island.

“Sedge Island, located off the coast of New Jersey, is home to a hidden beach that offers visitors a unique and secluded coastal experience,” says Family Destinations Guide, noting that the beach can only be accessed by boat, making it a truly exclusive destination.

“Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by soft sands and calm waters that are perfect for swimming and sunbathing. The beach is also home to a variety of wildlife, including nesting birds and crabs, making it a great spot for nature lovers.”

Since it has no boardwalk or commercial development, the beach at Sedge Island offers a peaceful retreat for those looking to escape the crowds and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.

Coming in at number 49 is Pearl Beach. Located in Cape May,

“Pearl Beach is a hidden gem known for its natural beauty and secluded atmosphere. This small beach is surrounded by lush vegetation and scenic views of the ocean, creating a peaceful and serene environment for visitors.”

Coming in at number 85, is Gunnison Beach. “Gunnison Beach is a stunning and secluded natural haven for beach lovers. Located on the Sandy Hook peninsula, this beach features clear, turquoise water, soft sand, and picturesque dunes. As a part of the Gateway National Recreation Area, visitors can enjoy hiking trails, wildlife viewing, and fishing in addition to beach activities.” Be forewarned that, according to the National Park Service, a portion of Area “G” (South Gunnison) on Sandy Hook is used by visitors as a clothing optional area.

If you’re looking for a secluded and tranquil slice of sand, you don’t need to go to Florida or Hawaii, look no further than our own Jersey Shore (plus our snacks are better!).
