Have you taken the kids to climb the Statue of Liberty before? Now there’s yet another reason to hit Liberty Island. The Statue of Liberty Museum is opening this spring on May 16.

The space will be 26K square feet of galleries, a theater, photographs and artifacts. Visitors will start their tour in the immersive theater where they’ll learn the Statue’s history and even get exclusive fly-through views of the iconic monument.

The Engagement Gallery will show guests how the statue was created via a step-by-step look at the sculptor’s studio. Kids will see the statue go from plaster to copper. In the Inspiration Gallery, they’ll get to add a self-portrait to a collage by guests and take part in a digital experience called Becoming Liberty.

The big feature? Seeing the Statue’s original torch up close, which was replaced in 1986, plus a model of Lady Liberty’s face. It’s all within glass walls, allowing museum goers to see the real Statue of Liberty outside, as well as the Manhattan skyline.

Admission is $18 for adults, $14 for seniors and $9 for kids ages 4-12 (under age 4 free). Tix get you in at both Liberty and Ellis Islands. Make a day out of it and take the ferry from Liberty State Park in Jersey City.
