An immersive exhibit dedicated to all things Harry Potter is set to open in NYC in May and tickets are now on sale and expected to sell out quickly. Beginning May 19, visitors can choose a Patronus, cast a spell, test their Quidditch skills, and brew potions in Manhattan’s Herald Square.
The exhibition premiered in 2022 in Philadelphia at the Franklin Institute and has since attracted more than a million visitors. The exhibit is currently showing in Atlanta, GA and Vienna, Austria. It’s set to open in Paris, France in April before coming to NYC’s Herald Square in May.
“This exhibition celebrates the Wizarding World like no other touring experience so where better to host it than New York City,” said Tom Zaller, President and CEO of Imagine Exhibitions. “We can’t wait to share it with the millions of visitors that come from around the world, as well as the fans and families across the New York metropolitan area.”
The exhibition features the iconic moments, characters, settings, and beasts seen in the films and stories of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts and also includes the costumes, props and imagery from the Broadway production Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Guests can experience a variety of environments that include everything from original costumes to authentic props as they take a personalized journey through a series of wizarding environments. As visitors explore each gallery, their interactions are captured using special wristbands to deliver unique experiences linked with their unique profiles.
Gallery highlights include:
- From Page to Screen Gallery showcases a first edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone encased in a Gringotts-inspired vault surrounded by video and literary quotes.
- Hogwarts Castle Gallery features an immersive multimedia experience with showcasing fab favorites like the Whomping Willow, Dementors, and the Marauder’s Map, where visitors will see their name appear, prompting them to continue their journey through the exhibit.
- The Great Hall Gallery celebrates moments in the films and boasts magical architecture.
- The Hogwarts Houses gallery allows guests to experience personalized moments with the Hogwarts house they select. While guests may gravitate towards one house, this gallery allows visitors to experience all of the Hogwarts houses in a celebratory hall featuring a Sorting Hat, perfect for photo ops.
- Hogwarts classrooms are filled with props, creatures, and costumes. Visitors will interact with lessons and games through touchscreens to reveal behind-the-scenes secrets about classroom moments. They will brew potions in the Potions Classroom, predict the future in Divination, pot a mandrake in the Herbology Greenhouse, and use their digital wand to defeat a boggart in Defense Against the Dark Arts.
- Hagrid’s Hut and The Forbidden Forest offer a Patronus charm experience. Guests will uncover iconic creatures, such as centaurs and Acromantula, hidden in the forest and explore inside a recreation of Hagrid’s Hut.
