New Jersey has a new gelato champion and fans of the dessert are going to want to be clued in about where to get a taste.
Francia Magsaysay of Francy’s Artisanal Ice Cream in Bergenfield entered her flavor “Passionfruit, Yuzu and White Chocolate” into the Gelato Festival World Masters tournament, which made its second stop in the U.S. in Houston on April 11 and 12. Her concoction features passion fruit and yuzu gelato swirled with white chocolate gelato plus passion fruit reduction. The judges voted her the best based on the flavor, structure, creativity and presentation.
Francia pays homage to her roots with her Filipino desserts. Francy’s Artisanal Ice Cream has classic flavors, but also really creative options like black sesame, gianduja crunch (hazelnut), guyabano (soursop, from the Caribbean), kape’t tinapay (coffee and bread, from the Philippines), melon, ricotta fig and walnut, Christmas blend, and fruit salad.
Francia is the only contestant from New Jersey. She will now represent the USA at the 2024 North American Semifinals, which is part of the search to find the best gelato across five continents.
Gelato Festival World Masters is the main category tournament with partners Carpigiani and Sigep – Italian Exhibition Group, and the competition was hosted at Coolers Inc.’s Carpigiani distributor.
Francy’s Artisanal Ice Cream is located at 461 S. Washington Ave. in Bergenfield. You can order single-serve ice cream, pints to go or party orders.
