This may come as no surprise, but according to an Italian website, New Jersey has some of the best pizza in the United States. 50TopPizza ranked the best 50 places for pizza in the U.S. for 2021 and we’re excited to see spots in Jersey City and Atlantic Highlands represented!
Coming in at number two on the list is Una Pizza Napoletana in Atlantic Highlands.
“Anthony Mangieri is certainly one of the most important protagonists of Neapolitan-style pizza in the USA,” says 50TopPizza. “The pronounced crust is very reminiscent of that of the ‘canotto’ (resembling the inflatable boat), the dough is perfectly leavened and bubbly and very fragrant. The raw materials used come from Italy, which include a nice selection of tomatoes.”
Included on the menu is the Bianca, made with Buffalo Mozzarella DOP, garlic, basil, Sicilian sea salt and EVO.

Ranked at number five on the list was Razza in Jersey City.
“Two minutes away from the Grove Street station (Path system), you will find one of the best pizzas around,” says 50TopPizza said. “Dan Richer is an excellent baker, a true artisan. The pizza has a crunchy crust that feels very satisfying to the bite. The raw materials used are very fresh and of excellent quality.”
Earlier this year, Razza was named by Food & Wine as one of the best pizza places in the Garden State. The shop’s website says they are committed to using seasonal, local ingredients. “The flour we use is milled in Clifton. We make our own bread and our own butter. Each ingredient is hand-picked, down to the salt that goes on the pizza.” The menu currently includes the Jersey Margherita, made with Jersey Girl Fresh Mozzarella (Sussex County, crushed New Jersey tomatoes, basil and olive oil (yum!). Right now, Razza is open for take-out only.
