What makes a middle school top notch? US News & World Report recently released its public school rankings for elementary, middle and high schools across the country and a middle school in Paterson was named New Jersey’s best middle school.
In the new ranking, “schools were assessed on their shares of students who were proficient or above proficient in their mathematics and reading/language arts state assessments. Half of the formula assessed the scores themselves and the other half incorporated the test results in the context of socioeconomic demographics. In other words, the top-ranked schools are all high-achieving and have succeeded at educating all their students,” according to the US News & World Report methodology.
In total, 23,861 middle schools were ranked across the country and you can read more about how the rankings factored in standardized tests measuring student proficiency in subjects related to mathematics and reading/language arts while taking into account the socioeconomics of each school’s area. Student-to-teacher ratio was also taken into account. You can read more about the methodology here.
