We love our fur babies, and we’re always looking for a new place to take them to spend some time off-leash with other dogs.
Technobark.com surveyed 3,000 dog owners across the U.S. and of their 120 “hidden gem” dog parks in the country, three from New Jersey made the list.
Colonial Park has a dog park off Mettlers Road in Somerset; access is via the same driveway as the Spooky Brook Golf Maintenance area. There are 3 acres and a 530-foot by 250-foot fenced area, where dogs are free to roam and play. This area includes a one-acre small dog area for dogs that weigh less than 25 pounds.
Thompson Park’s off-leash dog area lies between Jamesburg and Monroe in Middlesex County. There is a fenced-in area in the park part, plus open areas and wooded trails both pups and people love (it’s a top spot in the winter when it snows, too). There is an animal haven, sports fields, disc golf course, gazebo, picnic groves, a playground, volleyball nets, basketball court, handball courts and the beautiful Manalapan Lake (does your dog like to swim?) to keep everyone entertained all day.
Dog Park at Brookdale is on West Circuit Drive between Bloomfield and Montclair. This off-leash facility is part of beautiful Brookdale Park, which in turn is part of the Essex County Parks system. There are separate small and large dog areas to keep everyone safe.
