If you missed the reproduction of the Sistine Chapel at Garden State Plaza in Paramus this fall, come November 13, you can get your Michelangelo fix at the Metropolitan Museum of Art at Fifth Avenue in New York City.
Michelangelo: Divine Draftsman and Designer is the biggest single-subject show on the artist to date at the Met, boasting 133 drawings, three marble sculptures, his earliest painting and an architectural wooden model for a chapel vault. In addition, there are complementary works by other artists on display for context and contrast. The pieces were chosen from 50 public and private collections both in the US and Europe.
The Italian Renaissance master is most famous for the Sistine Chapel and statue of David, but you’ll be able to see smaller, more intimately known works such as a cartoon for his last fresco at Vatican Palace and drawings for his friends.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is located at 1000 Fifth Ave., New York, NY. Admission is $25 for adults, $17 for seniors, $12 for students and free for kids and members if you buy online. If you buy at the counter, the amount you pay is up to you, but the online prices are still suggested. The exhibit is open to the public from November 13 to February 12.
