We’ve all heard that coronavirus has caused a major blow to the restaurant industry. The Great American Takeout aims to ease its pain by encouraging everyone to order in or pick up food from a local spot you want to support. Order at least one meal for your family today to support keeping the food industry afloat during this trying time.
The official event mainly refers to restaurant chains that have rolled out deals for the occasion rather than independent restos, like Applebee’s, California Pizza Kitchen, Chevy’s Fresh Mex, Habit Burger Grill, Panera Bread and Qdoba. CPK is offering $10 off a $40 order when you order online. Reply to Qdoba’s Tweet with your order and you could win it for free today, along with a $100 gift card. Panera is offering free delivery through the rest of the month. Moe’s Southwest Grill is offering free delivery through April 10, a free kids entree for any adult entree ordered online or through the Moe’s app and a new taco kit that serves 4-6 people for $34.99-39.99.
If you’d rather support one of the local spots for Great American Takeout instead, check the resto’s social media page for or ask about special discounts and promotions before ordering. Blue Moon Mexican Cafe with locations in Englewood, Woodcliff Lake and Wyckoff is running a special promotion on a family-style taco dinner ($49.95 for a taco bar, shells, tortillas and chips, feeds 4-6) and a family-style fajita dinner ($74.95 for fajita meat, toppings, tortillas and chips, feeds 4-6). Deliveries are also free. And, as always, tip your delivery person generously.
Want to make an even bigger difference? Consider organizing your community to buy dinners for healthcare workers and others at the frontlines of fighting COVID-19. Juicy Platters, a Mediterranean Halal spot in Fair Lawn, Hackensack and Harrison, is already offering free meals to healthcare heroes through an online signup.
