We're all sick of those fundraising letters that come home seemingly weekly in the kids' backpacks. But on the second day of school, a Texas middle school distributed a form that gave moms across the country a good laugh. We think you'll all appreciate this (and maybe use this idea at your own schools).
Dee Wise Heinz says the sharp-witted PTA fundraising note given to her 12-year-old daughter and other kids at a Dallas-area middle school threw her for a loop—in a good way.
“My first thought was, ‘A fundraiser already?’” the mother of three told ABC News. “But after reading it, my husband and I got such a chuckle out of it and we thought it was so refreshing.”
Instead of urging parents to participate in traditional school benefits (how many bake sales and galas can one person handle, anyway?), the playful plea asks them straight-up for cash. The boxes on the donation checklist take the ruse even further.
“I do not want to bake, so here is the money I would have spent on those cupcakes,” the $15 gift option reads.
“I do not want to walk, swim or run in any activity that has the word ‘thon’ in it. Here is the money I would have spent on my child’s ‘free’ T-shirt,” says the $50 choice.
Since Wise Heinz posted it on her Facebook page—with the name of the school blacked out— the sassy letter has gone viral, with more than 233,000 shares and counting.
“I just shared it with my friends … because most parents can relate to it,” she said. “When it started to go viral, I called the PTA person and she explained that they’d done this for two or three years and it was a big success.”
