In the words of J. K. Rowling, “Whether you come back by page or by the big screen, Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home.” And this time, you can return by visiting the New-York Historical Society.
Harry Potter: A History of Magic will walk visitors through the franchise with rare books, manuscripts and magical objects from the British Library, New-York Historical Society, Scholastic and others. Muggles—uh, guests—can peruse everything from subjects offered at Hogwarts to original drafts and drawings from illustrators Mary GrandPré and Jim Kay and author J.K. Rowling herself. You can even peek at the lore that inspired the Wizarding World.
The exhibit will apparate into NYC this October, just in time to celebrate the series’ 20th anniversary in the US. The current British Library exhibition will be on view from Oct. 5, 2018 through Jan. 27, 2019. It may seem like your visit’s far off, but you’ll need to mark your calendar sooner than you think.
Tickets have (finally!) been released to the general public. You can grab your tickets here. Remember, these tickets are timed-entry, which means you can only show up on the date and at the time you choose at purchase. Museum admission is $21/adults, $13/students, $6/kids ages 5-13 and kids under age 4 are free.
September 2018 marks the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter’s release in the US. If you’re a family of Potterheads, you’ll probably want to grab tickets to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, keep an eye out for the Harry Potter: Wizards Unite app (the Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery app released this week!) and then treat the kids to something from PBTeen’s magical collection.
