It seems so simple to take the kids to the beach, but this summer, it is about to get a whole lot more complicated. Due to a new ordinance passed by the Seaside Heights Borough council on April 5, your beach bags will have to be a little bit lighter this year.
In addition to the $8/adult fee to get on the beach, there are a lot of extra rules. In an effort to improve beachgoers’ experience, several new rules have been introduced for the 2017 season:

You can only swim if lifeguards are on duty. Good news is that their hours got extended from 9 am–6 pm Monday through Friday and 9 am–9 pm on weekends and holidays to ensure there’s plenty of time for ocean dips.

No one is allowed on the sand after 9 pm unless they have special permission.

And in a huge change, the boardwalk will be closed from 3 to 6 am, so if you are staying at the shore and want to sneak out for a late night walk, think again.
And the following things are totally banned from the beach, so make sure you pack accordingly:

E-cigarettes and vaporizers

Umbrellas more than eight feet in diameter

Tables, stands or anything that can be used as a tabletop

Baby tents bigger than 36 inches wide, long and deep

Coolers long than 24 inches, or those with a capacity more than 36 quarts

Warming or serving trays

Beach canopies larger than 10 feet by 10 feet or any with side walls
So those massive umbrellas and coolers that you have that make sure your little one is fully covered from the shade? You may want to get our your tape measure before you put it in the trunk. Same with the coolers for drinks and snacks.
