One Dad Writes the School a Check in Common Core to Make a Point

Tired of overly complicated math homework, one Ohio father wrote a check to his son's elementary school a check using Common Core.

One frustrated father took a very unique approach to donating to his kids school. Frustrated with his son's math homework, Doug Herrmann decided to show his disdain for the highly controversial Common Core math process in the best way possible–by writing out a donation check to his son’s Ohio elementary school using the system.

The check, which was made out to Meldridge Elementary using the longform Common Core standard (aka a place value chart), was intended to be hard for both the school administrators and the bank teller to read. Would they understand this new system of doing math?

Herrmann also wrote on his Facebook page, “It’s sad when I can’t help my second grader do his math homework. Mental math and ten-frame cards? Common Core math sucks!”

Common Core, which has been officially implemented in 46 states so far, is known by many parents to be both long-winded and confusing. Others believe that although this seemingly longer process is actually helpful in more difficult multiplication and division problems.

Many parents have taken to Twitter to voice their frustration:
