Newark Named One of the Country’s Best Cities for Hockey Fans

The city was just ranked the 8th best hockey-loving city in the US

Every city has unique draws that make it special. Many are recognized for their food, history, or nightlife. And others, of course, are also lauded for their sports teams. Thanks to a new report, Newark can now count hockey as one of its top attractions. The city was ranked number eight on WalletHub’s list of 2023’s Best Cities for Hockey Fans. Now, Devils fans have even more to celebrate!

The personal finance site ranked a total of 75 cities using metrics like team performance, ticket prices, and fan engagement. Newark earned a total score of 44.08. The list’s top spot went to Boston, MA which scored 61.02. New York ranked a few spots above Newark, landing at number four with a score of 49.98. The New York Rangers and the Devils have a long-standing rivalry, with the Devils recently beating their tri-state opponent in game seven of their playoff series. Garden State residents are also split between their allegiance to the Rangers and Devils, with plenty of NY fans in NJ.

The team plays at the Prudential Center in downtown Newark, known as the Pru to fans. It’s also home to prestigious events like the MTV VMAs and hosts concerts with headliners like Alanis Morisette, who is set to perform on June 22.  While in Newark, hockey fans can choose from a bunch of nearby restaurants and sports bars before or after the game such as Redd’s Biergarten and Edison Ale House. The Prudential Center is conveniently located near Newark Penn Station, making it easier for fans from across the Garden State to root for their Devils in person.
