NJF: When did you launch Cosmesi and what was your biggest inspiration?
EA: I first started my company back in 2013, and since then have expanded into multiple different sectors of the beauty industry while managing over 13 celebrity- and privately-owned brands. At the heart of our company lies a deep dedication to family. My inspiration stems from my loved ones, driving me to work tirelessly every day to make them proud. Their unwavering support and belief in my vision fuel my determination to succeed and create something truly meaningful.
NJF: Tell us about some of the makeup brands you helped launch.
EA: My career began when I launched my first brand, Dirty Little Secret Cosmetics. Since its inception, we’ve been focused on providing high quality beauty products at affordable prices. Following the launch of Dirty Little Secret, I’ve gone on to develop and help co-develop additional brands, including celebrity and influencer brands. Our new endeavors hold great promise, and we are excited about the incredible opportunities that lie ahead!
NJF: You began as a makeup artist before you took the leap into entrepreneurship. How did you go from working as a professional makeup artist to formulating makeup products?
EA: During my career as a professional makeup artist, I developed a deep passion for the mechanics of beauty. I became fascinated by how different products and formulations could transform a look. This curiosity led me to explore the science behind makeup, particularly how altering simple ingredients could change an entire formula. My hands-on experience and desire to innovate naturally transitioned me from applying makeup to creating it, ultimately inspiring me to venture into the world of entrepreneurship.
NJF: What was your proudest moment as a business owner?
EA: One of my proudest moments as a business owner is being able to work alongside my family to create a company that genuinely helps others. Collaborating with my loved ones has been incredibly fulfilling, and together we have built something meaningful that makes a positive impact on people’s lives. One of my more recent proud moments was when my Alma Mater, Ramapo College, invited me to come back and teach a Consumer Behavior Business Course, which really solidified a “full circle” moment for me.
NJF: What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve ever gotten that you want to share with others?
EA: The best business advice I can offer is to stay true to your vision and values while remaining adaptable. Success comes from a combination of passion, perseverance, and the willingness to learn and grow. Surround yourself with a supportive team, seek out mentors, and always prioritize customer satisfaction. Remember, every challenge is an opportunity to innovate and improve.
NJF: What are some ways your business has been able to be involved with the community and give back?
EA: Our company is deeply committed to giving back to the community. We regularly donate products to underprivileged communities and women’s shelters, ensuring that those in need have access to quality beauty products. Additionally, we contribute to global relief efforts, providing support where it is needed most. These initiatives are integral to our mission, reflecting our dedication to making a positive impact both locally and globally.
NJF: What’s it like juggling raising three kids with running a business?
EA: Juggling the responsibilities of raising three kids while running a business is undoubtedly challenging. Balancing these demands requires tremendous dedication and support. I lean heavily on my husband and the help of our support network to make it through each day. Some days are harder than others, but my perseverance and commitment to both my family and my business keep me going. It truly takes a village, and I’m grateful for the support that allows me to pursue my passions and achieve my goals.
NJF: What is the one makeup product you can’t live without? What about a beauty tip you’d like to share with busy moms?
EA: I can’t live without lip oil. It’s incredibly hydrating and moisturizing, making it a staple in my beauty routine.
For busy moms, my top beauty tip is to remember that a little goes a long way. Wear what makes you feel the most confident, whether you’re in a board meeting or at home with the kids. Confidence is the best accessory, and a touch of makeup can make all the difference in how you feel throughout the day.
NJF: What do you love most about living in Holmdel?
EA: What I love most about living in Holmdel is being close to my family, the beach, and my friends. It’s a wonderful feeling to have everything that matters to me within a 10-mile radius. Additionally, being near the office adds to the convenience, allowing me to balance work and personal life seamlessly. Holmdel truly offers the perfect blend of community, nature, and accessibility.
NJF: What are some of your favorite things to do in New Jersey with your family?
EA: In New Jersey, we love spending time outdoors whenever the weather permits. Our family enjoys playing on our outdoor playground or going to the park, attending birthday parties, and gathering for family celebrations. We also love going on new adventures, trying out new places to eat, and finding kid-friendly activities to take our little ones to. Exploring the diverse offerings of New Jersey together as a family is always exciting as theres so much to do and NJ has so much to offer!
NJF: What’s next for your business?
EA: What’s next for our business is an exciting phase of growth and expansion. We plan to continue expanding our product lines and entering new retail markets to reach a wider audience. On a personal level, I am eager to venture into public speaking, sharing my journey and insights with others. Additionally, I am dedicated to helping other entrepreneurs achieve their goals, offering support and guidance to those navigating their own paths to success. The future is bright, and I am enthusiastic about the opportunities ahead.
