At divorce and family law firm Lawrence Law, Jeralyn Lawrence, Rita Aquilio, Kristyl Berckes, Daniel Burton, Ashley Edwards, Emily Urrico and Amy Wechsler provide a sophisticated and efficient approach to issues from alimony, child support and equitable distribution to custody and parenting time.

The attorneys have experience in all facets of divorce and matrimonial law, including litigation and mediation. “We’re strategic and compassionate, and achieving our clients’ goals—and tirelessly advocating for their best interests—remains our primary concern,” says Lawrence, a divorce trial attorney, trained mediator and arbitrator, and mother of three.

A past president of the New Jersey State Bar Association, Lawrence helps families resolve personal matters with or without court intervention. “My dad was a juvenile detective so I gained a perspective on the law early on in life. I wanted to help people going through emotional and difficult life situations,” she says.

The Lawrence Law team guides families through the difficult process of divorce or a breakup toward their best outcome. The firm was chosen among the top family law firms in the New Jersey Law Journal’s Best of 2024 survey.

“We help families reach a better place as they navigate their journey—and help them be as happy as they can be,” Lawrence says.

“Jeralyn is the most amazing, and incredibly rare, balance of competence and compassion, and nothing could be more important in the field of family law. She deftly and compassionately helped my navigate my incredibly challenging divorce, and both my daughter (without her knowing it) and I will be forever grateful to her. She has been one of the most influential people on my, and my family’s life, as a result.” – R.M., Gillette

“Jeralyn is a tireless and passionate lawyer always fighting for and thinking about her clients. Her priority is to protect the children and to ensure their health, safety and welfare. Jeralyn views each case holistically and how to help the family while advocating hard for her client. Highly recommend her.” – D.O., Summit

“My divorce started in 2010. We were divorced after our first trial in 2012. My spouse appealed the Judgment of Divorce and in 2013, we were remanded for a new trial and legally married again. My case was extremely complex due to the remand, my spouse refusing to engage in any meaningful settlement negotiations and her inability to find adequate counsel because five of her previous attorneys had fired her. The case lingered until 2019 with no resolution. In early 2019, I was referred to Rita Aquilio at Lawrence Law. Rita immediately reached out to my spouse and attempted to negotiate, to attempt to resolve the matter as inexpensively and fairly as possible. We mediated five more times however my spouse refused to enter into any meaningful negotiations. Rita was always cognizant that I had a son who was often put in the middle of the matter by his mother. Rita stuck with me through COVID when the Middlesex County Family Court system case movement pretty much ground to a halt. Rita provided me with excellent advice and didn’t sugarcoat anything. She was realistic regarding potential outcomes. She was creative and tried everything possible to keep the case moving forward. In February of 2023, we started our 2nd trial and it was still going on in July 2023. We tried to settle one more time and were able to reach a settlement with my spouse through her counsel. After we executed a term sheet memorializing the settlement, my spouse tried to “”re-neg”” on the settlement. Rita filed the appropriate motions and argued vehemently that my spouse should be required to adhere to the agreed upon terms, and the Court agreed. Without Rita’s fierce advocacy, I think I would still be in the middle of this. I highly recommend her not only for her consummate skill as a family law attorney but also for her compassion to her clients and their loved ones.” – M.R., Blue Bell
