Do your kids love a good “Curious George” book before bedtime? A new exhibit at Liberty Science Center is bringing the beloved books to life – but you only have until this weekend to explore.
Curious George: Let’s Get Curious! presents the timeless stories by H.A. and Margret Rey through lessons that teach kids about science, math, engineering, travel and discovery. The goal is to have children learn through direct experience and problem-solving, just as George does in the books.
At his Apartment Building, kids can operate pulleys and wheels to climb him up the fire escape, and experiment with color, light and shadow. There are three holes of mini golf where they will learn about physics and engineering because of the pipes, ramps and funnels. Take a photo on the Space Rocket that George took on his Outer Space Adventure, then slide down to the control center to email your photo to yourself.
At the Sidewalk Produce Stand, kids can sort and weigh fruits and vegetables, and role play as either the shopper or salesperson. A visit to the farm lets them care for the animals and learn about wind power.
Squeeze a full-sized Curious George in City Park, which also has an area with a busy wall for babies and toddlers.
There’s also a Museum Within the Museum, where you can learn about the backstory of Curious George and see the original manuscript’s daring escape from Europe during World War II.
Curious George: Let’s Get Curious! is open through May 4. Liberty Science Center is located at 222 Jersey City Blvd., Jersey City. The exhibit is included with admission to LSC.
