Nothing says spring like flowers in full bloom—and one of the best places to soak it all in is Longwood Gardens, which will celebrate Spring Blooms over the next month.

We’re talking 150,000 (!) tulips that will line the 600-foot-long Flower Garden Walk by mid-April. There will also be flowering magnolias, cherry trees and dogwoods.

Walk through the Idea Garden, where 90 new hydrangeas have been planted. The new Bonsai Courtyard has more than 50 deciduous plus cherry trees on display; later this month, Kurume azalea bonsai will be on display. The full bloom of the Ornamental Kitchen Garden is expected during the summer, with 200 fruit and vegetable crops growing every year.

Inside the West Conservatory, you’ll see and smell kangaroo-paws, Brandi dela Cruz and South African bulbs. The East and Main conservatories come alive with freesia, campanula, honeybells, hydrangeas and foxgloves.

Don’t miss the Meadow Garden, filled with Carolina silverbells, Eastern redbuds, flowering dogwoods, and sweet azaleas. This is also the spot where you’ll catch views of treehouses, topiaries and the natural woodlands of the area.

If you’re interested in gardening, consider signing up for a class, workshop or lecture to learn about moss walls, healthy trees and streams or wedding design.
There will be musical programming as well. A special celebration of Nat King Cole on April 25 is a separate ticketed event. International Organ Day on April 26 includes live organ demos by Thomas Gaynor, the assistant organist and choirmaster at Saint Mark’s Church in Philadelphia.

1906, Longwood’s fine dining restaurant, will serve a new spring menu during lunch or dinner, on select dates. The seasonally-inspired menu uses ingredients from the Ornamental Kitchen, as well as local farms.

Spring Blooms will be on display through May 4. Longwood Gardens is located at 1001 Longwood Rd., Kennett Square, PA. Hours are 10 am to 6 pm every day (closed Tuesdays) through April 17. From April 18 through May 4, hours are 10 am to 6 pm Monday, Wednesday and Thursday; and 10 am to 9 pm Friday-Sunday. Special Tuesday open dates are April 15 and 22. Timed admission tickets are required for members and the general public.
