The Bronx Zoo will debut a new Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood immersive experience next month, giving young fans of the PBS KIDS (and Fred Rogers Productions) series a chance to feel like they’re part of the show.
Kids will be involved in character meet-and-greets, original live shows (with lots of music, of course), hands-on learning activities, a climbable life-sized trolley, a seek-and-find nature walk, an area to mix-and-match outfits of people who work at the zoo, a tactile station where you can learn about animals, the Tunnel of Make Believe, and tons of photo ops.
To keep the exhibit accessible, kids will get a bilingual activity book in English and Spanish once they walk through the DTN archway; and there will be a sensory-rich replica of the iconic Neighborhood Music Wall (where kids can make music like insects, frogs and birds do). The goal is to promote social-emotional skills, and teach kids about wildlife education.
Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood will be open from May 22 to September 7 at The Bronx Zoo, Bronx, New York. The exhibit is included with your zoo admission ticket – meaning you can explore all 265 acres and see as many of the 11,000 animals as possible during your visit.
If you’re looking for something closer to home, Liberty Science Center in Jersey City has its own Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood experience, open only through May 10.
Kids can visit the Post Office to sort, deliver and receive packages and letters; play with clocks in the Clock Factory; choose a book at O the Owl’s Reading Nest; create stories at the Movable Character Mural; play with musical instruments, masks, costumes and a trolley path; and write a thank-you note to post on the Thank You Tree.
Daniel Tiger will be available for meet-and-greets on April 18, 19, 25 and 26; and May 2, 3, 9 and 10. Timeslots are the first 20 minutes of the hour from 11 am to 3 pm. Photos are first-come, first-served.
Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood: A Grr-ific Exhibit is free with admission to Liberty Science Center.
