Brace yourselves, muggles! Harry Potter New York will open June 3rd for a magical shopping experience that will delight fans of the Wizarding World. Located in the heart of New York City next to the iconic Flatiron building, this is the largest collection of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts merchandise under one roof.
Fans have been waiting for the store’s opening day, which was pushed back due to COVID, and it looks like we’ll soon be rewarded for our patience! Spanning three floors, this 21,000 sq. ft. store will offer more than just shopping. Wizards and muggles can experience immersive photo ops and enjoy interactive displays and even try a virtual reality adventure that takes you through Hogwarts castle to battle with death eaters.
With breath-taking design and hand-crafted props this amazing store is sure to delight fans of the books and movies. And with 15 different themed areas, it’s definitely a destination unto itself!
As you enter the store, you’ll pass under a huge model of Fawkes the Phoenix gazing down from the ceiling. “Fawkes was created especially for Harry Potter New York by a team of specialist propmakers over a number of months, the impressive model weighs over 220lbs and is just one of many painstakingly detailed, handmade props, each one created to surprise and delight customers as they explore,” according to the press release.
Further inside, fans can strike a pose inside a London phone box as if they’re transporting themselves into the Ministry of Magic or even see themselves inside Hagrid’s boots. An interactive wand table is another fun way to get in on the action.
Digital technology will be incorporated throughout the store and users of the Harry Potter Fan Club app can find a number of Enchanted Keys that unlock behind-the-scenes facts, figures and videos.
In addition to all that, plus virtual reality experiences, more of which will open this summer, there’s also excellent shopping to do here. The Personalization Area offers the option to engrave a wand, emboss a journal or embroider a House robe with your name (or you know, your child’s name).
