If you dread leaving the house in frigid winter temperatures, this new wintry extravaganza at Skylands Stadium is worth throwing on some extra layers to see.

The Augusta hotspot is hosting its annual Frozen in Ice Festival, this time with a Wild West theme, from January 27 to February 25. This celebration is chock-full of ice sculptures carved from more than 100 tons of ice. The displays are created by super talented artists from Sculpted Ice Works, who’ll be working their magic live at ice carving demos for visitors to watch.

But there’s more to do than just marveling at the ice: Kids will get up-close-and-personal with the slippery stuff riding down a 50-foot ice slide (snow or ski pants work best for this feature), getting lost in a giant ice maze, shopping for sweets at the ice candy store, playing ice games and of course, skating at the rink. There’s frozen fun for the grown-ups too, who can grab a cocktail or glass of vino at the one-of-a-kind ice saloon.

Other outdoor attractions include ice carving competitions (you help the judges choose a winner!), a s’mores fire pit and an outdoor grill. Once the fam is ready to thaw out, head indoors for carnival games, hot food and a cup of hot cocoa, tea or coffee.

Be sure to dress warmly and check the online calendar for specific dates and times, since they vary. Admission is free for kids under 38’’ in height, $15 for kids 12 and under, seniors and military and $20 for adults. Check the site before you go for  info on discounts and promotions.

Skylands Stadium is located at 94 Championship Pl., Augusta. Call 973-450-1070 or visit skylandsstadium.com for more information.
